About University
Immediately three large state structures – the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Rossotrudnichestvo – offered to increase this year the number of quotas for foreign students by exactly one third. The government not only approved the initiative, but also promised that it would support universities in regions that take residents of other countries for study. Sevastopol State University has long been cooperating with a number of countries, teaching young foreigners in demand and promising professions.
After the return of Crimea to Russia, the region’s higher school rebuilds its relations with a significant number of countries interested in our education. This year, the University will become almamater for children from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan and the Pridnestrovskaia Moldavskaia Respublika. Many of them desired direction for training in Sevastopol were received within the framework of state exchange programs. But the applicants from Turkey did not meet the deadline for submitting documents, and the admission committee was forced to refuse them. They returned to their homeland, giving the floor not to be late next year.
– The university has an impressive experience of working with students from near and far abroad. Marine, nuclear, polytechnical, radio engineering and IT-specialties are in great demand, – says the projector on scientific work and innovations of SevGU Andrey Pavlovich Falaleev. – Marine and nuclear programs are compiled taking into account the requirements of international standards, which allows graduates to immediately start working anywhere in the world, because their diploma is also an international one.
The majority of foreign students who received education in Sevastopol are representatives of Turkey, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, as well as countries of Africa and Asia. Their choice is due to a number of reasons, among which its quality is in the first place.
On the world stage, Sevastopol has long been a point of concentration of creative and highly educated people. So, post-graduate students of polytechnic professions pass training and receive master’s degrees in leading universities of the United States and Great Britain.
“This is our personnel potential,” continues Andrey Pavlovich Falaleev. – All graduate students can easily speak English, participate in international conferences and prepare world-class reports. I’m sure they will be excellent teachers who are able to find a common language with each student.
An example of how foreign students can be trained is the work of the Information Technologies Department. It offers five international training programs to foreign students, and this list will increase. Guests are offered to choose how the educational process will be conducted. In one case the student devotes the first year of his stay in the University to the study of the Russian language, and then enters the chosen specialty. In the second – a foreign guest can immediately begin to gain new knowledge in English.
Humanities (philology, history, psychology, translation) can also be claimed by foreign students to work in their homeland. According to Elena Boitsova, deputy director of the Humanitarian Pedagogical Institute, the most interesting direction in this regard can be teaching Russian as a foreign language. This skill is relevant for Mexico, the BRICS countries and the SCO. The Institute has specialists who are able to transfer their knowledge at a high level and are ready to develop the training of foreign students. They are sure that in the near future they will be able to work with the first guests.
Of course, in order for a young person to decide to study in another country, an institution that is interested in this must provide weighty arguments, in particular, the choice of popular professions, modern infrastructure and a decent material and technical base. Finally, to persuade the children from the near and far abroad to make a choice in favor of the University, the planned transformation of the infrastructure, updating of the technical base and laboratories of the university, expansion of the list of topical specialties are called for. The fact that the university is capable of training world-class specialists is confirmed in the laboratory “IT-technologies and microwave technology”, which has been carrying out orders of foreign partners for several years already. It was the work of this laboratory that made possible the project “Engineering Center”, the implementation of which has already begun.
Today Sevastopol State University has the opportunity to significantly improve the infrastructure of the university, which has not been improved for a long time. According to the rector of the SevGU Valery Koshkin, it is extremely important to create comfortable conditions for students’ studies and life to return to the university as soon as possible. In plans – repair of hostels, a sports complex, creation of system of student’s cafe and open areas for carrying out of various actions. All this, based on the high educational standards of Russia, pedagogical skills and scientific experience of university teachers, will give every student the opportunity to obtain a demanded and competitive education in worthy conditions.
